MTV Berlin
On November 22nd 2004 Eminem, the American Rap Star, visited the MTV Studios in Berlin and immediately afterwards gave a spontaneous concert for the fans who had waited for him outside the Studios in icy weather.
More about this funny action on the tour!
MTV is - of course - short for Music Television. The Station started broadcasting on the 1st August 1981 in the USA and showed only Video Clips. Although still aimed at a young audience, the programming over the years has changed somewhat with various documentaries and serials being added.
MTV is owned by the US Giant “Viacom” and can be seen in almost every country meanwhile.
At one time MTV could only be seen with a decoder in Germany thus allowing their major competitor “VIVA”, who broadcast “free-to-air”, to become very popular.
MTV Germany moved to Berlin in April 2004 and is situated right on the Osthafen together with their neighbours “Universal Music”. In 2005 “Viacom” bought “VIVA” and since then VIVA & MTV have more or less the same type of programmes.
Popular faces on MTV Germany:
Markus Kavka
Sarah Kuttner

In 1994 the first European Music Award Show (EMA) was broadcast by MTV in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. On November 5th 2009 the EMAs will come back to Berlin again!
