Thilo Schmied and Fritz Music Tours discover Berlin´s Musical History.

The divided city of Berlin has always attracted Musicians searching for inspiration and who quite accidentally helped to write music history. Thilo Schmied, who used to work for various record and promotion companies, criss-crosses the City showing the most interesting and significant locations from Berlin´s Musical History from the 1970´s up until today.  The two and a half hour Tour takes you to the legendary Hansa Studios where big names like David Bowie, Depeche Mode and U2 have recorded.  Nina Hagen still records there.  One also drives by out of the way places like where David Bowie and Nick Cave used to live.  The Tour is also supported by videos shown on the bus together with interesting commentaries such as what happened when Nick Cave discovered the Intershop, what did Iggy Pop keep in his fridge and why was there almost a riot when David Bowie visited “Das Andere Ufer”, a gay bar.  Not quite so spectacular but just as important is the “Leidecke” where “die Ärzte” shot their first video. Two years later in the “Risiko”  Bilxa Bargeld met Nick Cave who then joined The Bad Seeds as a guitarist. However one is not only informed about the past. Berlin Hip Hop Crew Aggro Berlin, MTV, and “Wir sind Helden” are also mentioned.  Musically Berlin has so much to offer. High time to respect this with a very special Sightseeing Tour.

UNCLE SALLY'S Magazine

Berlin is the Music Capital of Germany, at least since the time David Bowie and Iggy Pop lived in the Hauptstraße in Schöneberg, or the New German Pop “wave” was rolling, or at the very latest since “Soilent Grün” broke up and became “die Ärzte” – to try to talk about Berlin without mentioning it´s Musical History is unthinkable. Everyone who is interested in Berlin Bands should take the Fritz Music Tour as well as those who want to take a nostalgic look at Berlin´s Musical History. Not only has David Bowie recorded some of his monumental Albums here, but others like U2 and Depeche Mode have also left their own mark and you will hear about some of them on the Tour Bus as it travels through the City.  As well as showing you some of the former Artistes´ favourite Pubs you will gain an insight into the Berlin Music Scene.  Where do they party?  Where does Sido go shopping. You will also be told about the rise and fall of the Love Parade, other developments in the Club Scene as well as stories about some of the vintage concert halls like the SO36. A trip, past and present, through Berlin´s musical heritage. Bookings can be made at www.musictours-berlin.de

(030) Berlin Magazine

Every Weekend hundreds of thousands  of people participate in Berlin´s cultural life and usually end up in a Pub drinking a beer or two. Suddenly someone comes in and the public start to whisper “isn´t that so-and-so from the so-and-so-band?” The so-and-so person is immediately surrounded by people hungry for autographs. Things like this happen here every day. Let´s face it we are the coolest Capital City in Germany, but very few people, least of all the Berliners,  know where the Stars meet on the Weekend, where they work etc. Now Fritz Music Tours fills in this gap for you by way of a two hour bus tour. Where do “Rammstein” rehearse?  Where and how did “Wir sind Helden” start? What did David Bowie, carrot juice junkie Iggy Pop and Depeche Mode have in common during the 1970´s and 80´s? Where did Techno and Pop start? Apart from listening to interesting stories from Westbam, Nina Hagen and Markus Kavka and short music samples, your Music Guide, Thilo Schmied, with his tireless and infinite knowledge, makes the Tour into a worthwhile experience not only for tourists.

By bus through Berlin´s Music Scene.
An unusual Sightseeing Tour with 30 stops.

This Sightseeing Tour Rocks: From next Saturday a new Sightseeing Tour will take Guests on a trip through Berlin´s colourful music history. An air-conditioned bus takes the guests to places of interest, for example, die Siegessäule (Victory Column), where, since 1996 the Column has always been the major meeting point for the masses of “techno people” for the conclusion of the Love Parade. The Brandenburg Gate, where in 1994 George Michael opened the first European Music Awards Show broadcast by MTV singing his huge hit “Freedom”,  The Tour takes you back to the very beginnings of the Berliner Club Scene: the SO36 in the Oranienstraße, to the building site in the Leipziger Straße where the world famous Technoclub Tresor was demolished after fifteen successful years. The Arena in Treptow, the Knaack Club where bands like Rammstein, Knorkator and Clawfinger played their first concerts. “The Big Hall by the Wall” was a term coined by David Bowie in the 1970´s to describe Studio 2 of the Hansa Studios situated in the Köthener Straße. Here David wrote and produced his huge hit “Heroes”. Universal Music, the largest German Record company, are situated in the Stralauer Allee alongside their neighbours MTV. Among some of the more than 30 stops on the Tour one is shown where the Stars and others lived, rehearsed or produced. For example, Nina Hagen´s flat in the Kastanienalle and Nick Cave´s flat in the Dresdener Straße. During the Tour one can watch interviews on Monitors with the likes of Nina Hagen, DJ Westbam, Dimitri Hegemann, Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode`s Producer), Nick Cave and many other Artistes.

Thilo Schmied, a thirty-two year old Berliner and Sound Engineer, guides us through the Tour. For many years he worked with many bands and due to his knowledge of the Berlin Music Scene knows the City like no other. He is full of interesting stories, unusual background information as well as a wealth of anecdotes. As well as recording the interviews, Schmied researched the Tour for about a year. Berlin Bookmarks

Thilo Schmied and his guests make their way along the trail of local pop history.   On the Tour Bus well-known, not so well-known and almost forgotten places associated with Berlin´s Music Scene are visited. The Guide tells exciting stories as well as interesting anecdotes regarding every stop on the Tour. The very first tour started on the 8th October sponsored by Fritz Radio. The Website, with its hand-drawn illustrations and popups, stands out particularly well. Maybe too much is revealed about the places one visits, so in order to keep up the suspense perhaps one should not look to closely.
